Lions escape Burlington-Edison with close win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 7, 2014

Lynden's boys' basketball team continued its undefeated season with a 45-44 win over Burlington-Edison on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Burlington-Edison High School.

Sterling Somers led the team with 14 points, but it was Jordan Wittenberg who gave the Lions a much-needed spark. Wittenberg hit four 3-pointers coming off the bench, totaling 12 points.

"The sophomore played with a lot of confidence when we were struggling a bit offensively," coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview.

The game came down to the wire, but a key Parker Harrison steal and a missed 14-footer by Burlington-Edison's Jacob Kamps sealed a win for the visiting Lions.

"It wasn't a Picasso, but our guys found a way to win," Roper said. "It was a game with a lot of rough edges, but we're always glad to be leaving Skagit County with a win."

The Lions face Anacortes at home on Friday, Jan. 10.
