Ferndale boys lose heart-breaker in overtime

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 6, 2014

Ferndale's boys' basketball team suffered a "tough luck loss," in the words of Ferndale coach Monte Walton. The Golden Eagles lost 71-70 in overtime to Burlington-Edison on Monday, Jan. 6.

Brady Shearer led Ferndale with 17 points. Austin Honeycutt had 13 points and John Weg had 10 before they both fouled out. Daniel Riley added 11 points.

"The second quarter did us in, we left Jackson Price open for three 3-pointers," Walton said in a phone interview. "Riley, Shearer and Kier Munzanreder were warriors. They picked up the scoring load. All of Kier's 11 points came in the fourth quarter and overtime."

Jackson Price led the Cubs with 21 points.

Ferndale's next game is at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at home against Sehome.
