Blaine girls earn home win over Anacortes

The Blaine girls' basketball team earned a 44-34 Northwest Conference victory Monday, Jan. 6, at home over Anacortes.

Mandy Hayes had 15 points, including three 3-pointers, Taylor V'Dovec had 10 points and nine rebounds, Alexis McElwain added eight points and Breanna Chau had seven points and four assists.

Blaine coach Ryan Pike said the game was a little sloppy at first.

"The first game back from break and both teams were a little sluggish," Pike said in a phone interview. "Mandy hit some key shots and propelled our offense."

The Borderites, who improved to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the NWC, play at Bellingham at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9.
