Lindsey, Ray lead Baker wrestling to third at Warden

Mount Baker's boys' wrestling team produced two individual champions and took third as a team at the Warden Tournament Saturday, Jan. 4, at Warden High School. Travis Lindsey (170 pounds) and Alex Ray (182) claimed their respective division crowns for the Mountaineers.

Warden won the tournament with 177.5 points, and Tonasket edged Baker for second with 141.5 points. The Mountaineers took third with 140 points.

"Travis has been wrestling well all year. He got behind and pinned his opponent in the second round," Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "Alex wrestled a good match - he didn't put himself in a bad position and kept the pressure on. He won 6-2 and wrestled really solid."

Ray's win was his first varsity tournament championship. All 10 of the wrestlers Baker took to the tournament placed.

J.T. Keeney (195), Alex Tyska (160) and William Casadof (132) were third-place finishers for Mount Baker. Jeremiah Cronk was fourth in the 138-pound division, and Skyler Tannen was fourth for the 120-pound wrestlers.

Joseph Larranaga (126) and Jesus Terrero (113) finished sixth in their divisions for Mount Baker. The Mountaineers travel to Anacortes on Wednesday, Jan. 8, for a dual.
