Orcas jump on Peninsula, coast to win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 4, 2014

Whatcom Community College's men's basketball team defeated Peninsula 99-76 behind Kyle Impero's 40 points on Saturday, Jan. 4, at WCC.

"Peninsula is a good team, we just jumped on them early," coach David Dunham said in a phone interview.

Impero also had nine rebounds to tie for the team lead with Eric Fongue. Alex Duncan and Neilan Pierce each had four assists in the game.

The Orcas, especially Impero, benefited from a strong week at practice, Dunham said. The most telling sign of the practice was the Orcas nine 3-pointers on only 18 shots from beyond the arc.

"Practice this week was a little different," he said. "We were more focused than we've been this year."

The Orcas get back to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 8, against Skagit Valley.
