Meridian boys can't keep pace with Sedro-Woolley

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 3, 2014

Despite holding Jackson Price to 17 points, the Meridian boys' basketball team was unable to find a rhythm offensively and took a 61-39 loss to Sedro-Woolley on Friday, Jan. 3, at home. The Trojans were led by Sam Chambers' 11 points and 10 rebounds.

"We knew we had to take away the 3-pointer and did a good job of that," Meridian coach Shane Stacy said of his team holding the Cubs to zero 3-pointers.

Stacy was impressed with Blake Briones' defense for the Trojans as he shut down Price, holding him to just two points in the first quarter, and 17 in the game. Briones also contributed six points and 10 rebounds.

"It's hard to put up points when you have to defend one of the best players in the league," Stacy added.

Meridian falls to 1-1 in Northwest Conference play and 4-4 overall. Sedro-Woolley improved its record to 2-0 in the NWC and 6-1 overall.

Meridian's next game is at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Bellingham.
