Bannerman, Ferndale defense big part of comeback win

Ferndale's girls' basketball team got in a hole early, but an 18-point fourth quarter led the Golden Eagles to a 57-50 win over Burlington-Edison on Friday, Jan. 3, at Burlington-Edison High School.

The Tigers' Edie Breckenridge had 20 points in the first half, but the Golden Eagles' defense said enough was enough in the second half and she finished with only 24.

"We weren't moving our feet on defense in the first half," Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview.

Ferndale's Carly Bannerman countered with 10 points in the second quarter to keep Ferndale in the game. Bannerman finished with a team-high 15 points and six steals.

The Golden Eagles (7-2, NWC 2-0) play Sedro-Woolley on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at home.
