"Pop, The Balloon" showcases four years of work by Bellingham graphic designer and illustrator Mat Hudson, with new pieces that explore the misadventures of a very disgruntled hot-air balloon.

Hudson derives inspiration for his whimsical illustrations from turn-of-the-last-century children's books, but adults and children alike find his timeless themes irresistible.

His work is displayed through Jan. 26 at Make.Shift Art Space, 306 Flora St.

Meet him at an opening reception during the monthly Downtown Art Walk between 6 and 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3.
