VOLKSSPORT: Ski or snowshoe during annual Cle Elum event

The Evergreen Wanderers Volkssport Club will have its annual cross-country ski and snowshoe event Jan. 4-5 in Cle Elum.

Participants will travel a 10-kilometer, easy route.

Skiers will travel on the level Iron Horse Trail past the old powerhouse station, along Tilman Creek and the Cle Elum and Yakima rivers. This is an outstanding beginner’s ski trail.

People on snowshoes will walk on the level Iron Horse Trail East past two ponds with views of the Cle Elum Valley.

People can start from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 4 and 8 a.m.-noon Jan. 5. The course closes at 4 p.m. Jan. 4 and 3 p.m. Jan. 5.

Co-sponsoring the event and serving as the event headquarters is the Iron Horse Inn. The inn is at 525 Marie Ave., South Cle Elum.
