Friberg, Gruber's big games come up short for Orcas

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 28, 2013

Whatcom Community College's women's basketball team suffered another early-tournament exit after falling to Blue Mountain 74-65 on Saturday, Dec. 28, in the LCC Holiday Classic at Centralia College.

The Orcas previously lost to the host, Lower Columbia Community College, meaning it was a must-win game for Whatcom on Saturday.

WCC couldn't get it done despite 36 points by Nathalie Gruber and Alisha Friberg combined. Friberg scored nine of her 19 points from beyond the arc.

Nineteen turnovers eventually doomed the Orcas, who couldn't slow down Blue Mountain's Mar'Shay Moore. Moore scored 24 points in the game.

The Orcas completed pre-league tournaments with a record of 4-6. They take on Peninsula on Saturday, Jan. 4, at home to open NWAACC play.
