Nooksack Valley girls use stout defense to top Seattle Academy

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 28, 2013

Nooksack Valley girls' basketball team held Seattle Academy scoreless in two quarters in the Pioneers' 60-16 win Saturday, Dec. 28, at Seattle Academy. The Pioneers were led by Mariah Perry's 20 points in the victory.

"We jumped out in the first quarter - the girls did a great job attacking," Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview. "Mariah had eight of her 20 in the first quarter and had a bunch of steals (6)."

Wichers was happy with how his team improved on defense and in rebounding from its last game.

"They responded to last night's game," he said.

Nooksack Valley's next game is at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at home against Blaine.
