Red Raiders unable to knock off undefeated Stanwood

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 28, 2013

Bellingham's boys' basketball team competed with one of the best but couldn't keep up in a 72-59 loss to Stanwood on Saturday, Dec. 28, in the Prostock Winter Classic at Mount Vernon High School.

"Stanwood's good," coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview. "They're undefeated for a reason."

The Red Raiders weren't able to stop the pick-and-roll of Stanwood, as the Spartans continued to find the hoop.

"Even when we knew it was coming, they could still score," McKay said.

Kailen Hayes put pressure on Stanwood all game as he dropped a team-high 17 points and opened up baskets on the outside for Ryan Fox, McKay said.

The Red Raiders have taken all they can from the non-conference tournament and now move into Northwest Conference play with Lynden Christian on Thursday, Jan. 2, on the road.
