Youtsey's 35 comes up short in Storm loss

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 28, 2013

The Squalicum boys' basketball team battled to the end but came up short in a 56-55 loss to La Center in the SunDome Shootout on Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Alijah Garcia hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 55 in the closing minutes and then La Center got to the line and made a free throw to take the lead. The Storm got a chance at the last shot, but couldn't put it in.

"We got up and down and I thought we played hard," coach Dave Dickson said in a phone interview. "We played unselfish but they shot the ball extremely well and that was costly for us."

Blake Youtsey led the Storm with 35 points.

"He shot the ball real well," Dickson said. "His shot selection was outstanding."

Squalicum returns to Bellingham to face Lynden on Thursday, Jan. 2, in its Northwest Conference opener.
