Squalicum girls lock down on defense, top Ingraham

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 28, 2013

Squalicum girls' basketball forced 37 turnovers by Ingraham High School, from Seattle, in the Storm's 53-26 win Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Crush in the Slush basketball tournament in Port Townsend. Meghan Lowry led Squalicum with 20 points and seven rebounds.

"In the early-morning game (9 a.m.) it took awhile for us to get our feet underneath us," Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "We didn't have a very good first half, but we challenged the team at halftime and they responded in the second half."

Shaunee Hooper added six points and a team-high 10 rebounds for Squalicum. Bailey Molnar also had four points and a team-high five assists.

"Hooper is a warrior - she never gives up on any ball," Wright said. "She's been a huge asset this season because she gives us so many extra possessions with her rebounds."

The Storm play next at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, at home against Lynden.
