Mariners takes big strides in loss

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 28, 2013

Sehome's girls' basketball team is all about making improvements, getting better game by game, and that's what the Mariners did in their 62-34 loss to Cascade Christian in the Cloud 9 Sports Christmas Classic on Saturday, Dec. 28, at Lynden Christian High School.

On Friday, Sehome turned the ball over 35 times. On Saturday, the Mariners cut that number to 15.

"I thought our kids came out with a ton of energy today," coach Kim Kirk said in a phone interview. "We were right in the game in the first half and we went absolutely dry in the third quarter. We were pretty even with them other than a few minutes."

Megan Bayless got hot from outside and hit three 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 13 points.

"Bayless hitting some shots led over to the rest of the team," Kirk said.

Sehome starts Northwest Conference play on Thursday, Jan. 2, against Anacortes, and if the improvement continues Kirk thinks her team will start seeing some wins.
