Honeycutt's double-double not enough for Ferndale girls in loss

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 27, 2013

Ferndale girls' basketball fell to Auburn Riverside 59-50 on Friday, Dec. 27, at Juanita High School at the KINGCO/WESCO Challenge. The Golden Eagles were led by Linsey Honeycutt's 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Hannah Carlson also had 17 points, despite being in foul trouble for much of the game. Ferndale was without Taryn Knutson in the loss.

"Taryn is one of our big defensive players," Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. "Shelby Slaughter got her first start for us, and even though she didn't score you would never know it was her first start because she played outstanding defense."

Ivy said only scoring five points in the second quarter put the Golden Eagles in a hole, but they battled back and forced Auburn Riverside to make free throws to win at the end of the game.

Ferndale plays next at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, against Enumclaw at the KINGCO/WESCO Challege at Juanita High School.
