Seahawks' loss draws angry Dem tweet; Republicans pounce

Posted by Ralph Schwartz on December 23, 2013

UPDATE: Just now, 5:53 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon, D-Burien, posted an apology to Facebook about the tweet that is the subject of this post.

Don't tweet when you're angry.

That's the lesson to be gained from yesterday's 140-character-or-less rant by Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon, D-Burien, after the Seahawks' home loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Fitzgibbon understandably deleted the tweet, so it's no longer in his feed. But recently elected state Republican Chairwoman Susan Hutchison preserved the tweet and used it as an opportunity to fundraise.

Here's the tweet in question, as provided by Hutchison in an email with the subject line "Unsportsmanlike Conduct:"

Here's what Hutchison had to say about the episode in her email:

"As House Majority Whip in Olympia, Rep. Fitzgibbon’s hateful tweet demeans his office. We don’t need Democrats who stoop to intolerance, extremism and demonizing of their political opponents. This tweet is drawing disgust from people nationwide! We need to change the culture in Olympia, so that Democrats won’t embarrass the people of Washington State.

"Please give $5 today to send a message to Democrats that Fitzgibbon’s extreme viewpoint will not be tolerated from our elected officials!"

Fitzgibbon's twitter feed does include his own response to the deleted, regrettable twutterance:

"Upset re hawks loss, and failure of smart immigration reform--shouldn't have conflated the 2 though. Happy holidays, better for both in '14"
