Ken Jernberg and Joyce Jernberg

December 22, 2013

Ken Jernberg and Joyce Hanson were married sixty years ago December 19, 1953 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After honeymooning in Denver, Colorado they moved to Seattle, Washington. Ken completed his internship at Harborview Hospital and a pediatric residency at Seattle Children's, then known as Children's Orthopedic Hospital. Joy learned to drive on the hilly streets of Seattle and studied at the University of Washington. In 1958, they moved to Bellingham. For a brief period of time, in the 1960s, Ken was the only pediatrician in Whatcom county. He practiced pediatrics for 35 years in Bellingham. Joy and Ken have been active with the community, extended family, neighbors, their church, book club, ski patrol, small groups, boating friends and the Firs. They raised three children, Tim (Elizabeth), Brad (Heidi) and Sue (Doug Waltar). They have 7 grandchildren, (Ben, Andrew, Katie, Peter, Anna, Abby and Laura) who will be celebrating with them over the holidays. We who know and love them continue to be blessed by their presence in our lives.
