If you have been looking for a reason to visit the South Sound Estuarium in Olympia, consider attending the Turn of the Tides Festival on Saturday.

The South Sound Estuary Association and partners present this free celebration of the winter solstice. There will be new exhibits, special guests and activities.

Visitors will be able to wet their hands and feel Puget Sound marine creatures in touch tanks, make Sand Art with Seadazzle, peer through microscopes to see what the mussels are filtering, make salmon life-cycle bracelets, and listen to the storytelling of Harvest Moon. Taylor Shellfish Farms will serve hot oyster stew, with a suggested donation to benefit the estuarium.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The estuarium is at 608 Washington St. NE, Olympia. There’s plenty of parking, and the estuarium is only one block south of the Olympia Farmers Market,

Working with the association are Nisqually Reach Nature Center, Pacific Shellfish Institute, Seadazzle, South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group, Puget Sound Restoration Fund, Stream Team, Harvest Moon, Taylor Shellfish and Capitol Land Trust.
