Stiff Ferndale girls defense shuts down Mount Baker

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 19, 2013

Ferndale girls' basketball held Mount Baker's prolific offense to just one 3-pointer en route to a 63-19 win on Thursday, Dec. 19, at Ferndale High School. The Golden Eagles were led by Hannah Carlson's 18 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in the win.

"Holding them to just five baskets and one 3-pointer was key," Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. "Playing back-to-back must have been hard for (Mount Baker's) legs."

Ivy also pointed out that Carlson took on the scoring and rebound load when Linsey Honeycutt had to come out early with foul trouble. Honeycutt still finished with 17 points.

"Hannah is pretty self-motivated, so she was ready to break out," Ivy added.

Ferndale plays next at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at home against Oak Harbor. Mount Baker's next game is at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, against Cascade Christian for the Cloud Nine Sports Christmas Tournament at Lynden Christian.
