Mark leads Lynden girls over Bellingham

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 19, 2013

Lynden girls' basketball defeated Bellingham 56-39 behind Kaitlyn Mark's 20-point outburst on Thursday, Dec. 19, at Lynden High School. Stephanie Somers also had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Lions.

"Bellingham came out with a great gameplan: they played a lot of full-court pressure and sped up the game on us in the first half," Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview. "Even though we were ahead (at halftime) we were in too big of a rush."

In the second half Lynden was able to slow down and outscore Bellingham 30-19 for the rest of the game. Joelle Zamora led the Red Raiders with 17 points and all four of the team's 3-pointers. Alyssa Porter also had 14 points and led Bellingham in rebounds.

Lynden's next game is at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, against Sonoma, from California, for the Cactus Jam in Tempe, Ariz. Bellingham plays next at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, against Lakewood at Mount Vernon High School for the Prostock Winter Classic.
