Lynden earns narrow dual-meet win over Nooksack Valley

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 18, 2013

The Lynden girls' wrestling team beat Nooksack Valley 36-29 during a dual meet on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Nooksack Valley High School.

Lions Emily Gallegos, Maria Ortiz, Lindsey Cerny and Cara Bouwman each earned wins, but Bouwman's win in the 235-pound class sealed Lynden's victory.

"It was pretty close at the end," Lynden coach Santos Gallegos said in a phone interview. "If she would have lost, it would have put us a couple points down, but she went out there and had fun."

Nooksack Valley's Delaney Cop, Chloe Gardner and Kylee Dekoekkoek recorded wins, and Gallegos said Gardner's second-round pin against Lynden's Gabriela Herrera was the most exciting of the night, featuring two state-meet returners.

"The girls were in a really good mood and in high spirits today," Gallegos said. "They pretty much set the tone from the beginning."
