Mountaineers overcome fatigue, snag win over Friday Harbor

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 18, 2013

Mount Baker's girls' basketball team entered the game worried about fatigue for its second game in two nights. Turns out there wasn't much to worry about.

The Mountaineers jumped out to a 22-2 lead and coasted to a 60-31 victory over Friday Harbor on Wednesday, Dec. 18, in Friday Harbor.

"We came in with good energy and got after it defensively," coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. "It was nice to get out there and have a great quarter."

Emily Yost scored 13 of her 26 points in the opening quarter, but it was the press of Baker that led the Mountaineers to victory.

Emma Lallas, Korrina Kamacho and Jessa Baisden all impressed Ellis with their press defense throughout the game.

"In the press, it's all five on the floor," Ellis said. "One creates and the other gets the steal."

Baker will play its third game in three days against Ferndale on Thursday, Dec. 19, at Ferndale High School.
