THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 17, 2013

Lynden girls' basketball held Mount Baker to just five points in the fourth quarter to seal a 73-59 victory Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Lynden High School. The Lions were led by Elisa Kooiman's double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds.

"Baker came out and took it to us in the first half," Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview. "They shot extremely well, even when we played great defense. ... Elisa Kooiman kept us alive in the first half, then in the second half we made some adjustments defensively."

Stephanie Somers added 16 points for the Lions. Emily Yost scored 18 for Mount Baker and earned high praise from Adams.

"Yost was fantastic, no matter what we did to stop her she worked hard to get her 18 points," Adams said.

Lynden's next game is its Northwest Conference opener at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at home against Bellingham. Mount Baker plays again at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at home against Friday Harbor.
