Sedro's pressure wears down Nooksack in 60-44 win

The Nooksack Valley boys' basketball team couldn't sustain its strong first-half play, inevitably losing to Sedro-Woolley 60-44 on Monday, Dec. 16, at Sedro-Woolley High School.

The Pioneers strung together a strong first and second quarter, only trailing the Tigers 29-26 entering the half. Unfortunately, the Tigers' 2-2-1 full-court defense began to wear down Nooksack Valley throughout a defining third quarter.

"It wasn't any different. We just decided to turn it over in the third quarter," Nooksack Valley coach Tyler Mitchell said in a phone interview.

Sedro-Woolley outscored the Pioneers 20-7 in the third quarter, distancing itself and getting the win.

Jackson Price, who entered the game averaging 34 points a game for the Tigers, managed to score 11 of his game-high 22 points in the first quarter. After that, Nooksack Valley kept him at bay, forcing him to record most of his other points from the free throw line.

"He got away from us a little bit in the first quarter," Mitchell said. "I thought for the most part our kids did a nice job."

Seth Taron led the Pioneers with 16 points. He's typically not a huge scorer, Mitchell said, but moving forward he is going to be someone Nooksack Valley looks to provide consistent offense.

"That's the first time he's really done a lot of scoring for us," Mitchell said.
