Lummi Island ferry to accept credit card payments on board

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 16, 2013

LUMMI ISLAND - Passengers on the Lummi Island ferry can purchase single-ride and multi-ride fares on the boat with a credit or debit card, starting Jan. 1.

The county will charge a 2.35 percent fee for multi-ride tickets, to cover bank service fees. Passengers will continue to be able to pay on board the Whatcom Chief with United States currency or with a check, in U.S. funds.

Fare rates are online at whatcomcounty.us/publicworks/ferry. Click on "Ferry Fares."

Whatcom County, which operates the ferry, started accepting credit card payments for tickets this summer, but only online or at the Public Works Administration office, 322 N. Commercial St., Suite 210, Bellingham.

Tickets will still be available online at the website given above. Click on "Purchase Multi-ride Punch Cards."
