Baker loses opening game to La Conner

Mount Baker's boys' basketball team got into foul trouble and eventually suffered the 45-40 loss to La Conner on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Mount Baker High School.

The Mountaineers committed 25 fouls and La Conner took 34 shots from the free-throw line.

"We just kept fouling," Baker coach Rob Gray said in a phone interview.

Colton Ranson was forced to take over the point guard role - a position he normally doesn't play - due to the foul trouble the Mountaineers were in.

"Colton Ranson did a good job of playing the point," Gray said.

A weak spot of Baker was the lack of handling the ball, as they turned it over 17 times.

"We really struggled offensively," Gray said. "We turned the ball over way too much."

Baker (0-1) faces Lynden on Saturday, Dec. 14, at home.
