Bellingham's girls' basketball team used a balanced offense and pressure defense to top Marysville-Getchell 54-40 Saturday, Dec. 14, at Marysville-Getchell High School. The Red Raiders were led by Ashley Spink's 12 points in the win.
"We had a really good burst of energy in the second quarter that was keyed by steals and transition opportunities," Bellingham coach Ed Wissing said in a phone interview. "It was a rough start and a physical game, so it took us awhile to get adjusted."
Wissing said once his team got past the frustration of not getting many fouls in a physical game, they were focused in and found a groove.
Alyssa Porter added eight points for Bellingham, and Wissing praised her defensive energy and confidence in attacking the basket. Abigail McLellan also had eight points for the Red Raiders.
Bellingham's next game is at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, when the Red Raiders host Squalicum.
