BELLINGHAM - An early morning fire destroyed a vacant house in the 2600 block of Lynn Street on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013.
Apparently, no one was inside at the time of the fire in the Columbia neighborhood, and no injuries were reported, Bellingham Fire Department Assistant Chief Bill Newbold said in a news release.
Bellingham Police, Bellingham Fire and Fire District 8 responded to a 911 call from a neighbor adjacent to the burning house at about 4:40 a.m., Newbold said. Police and fire crews arrived within five minutes of being dispatched to find flames shooting through the roof of the 2-story home.
Neighbors told responders that the house was recently sold and had been vacant.
Firefighters at first fought the fire from the inside and searched for occupants. As conditions worsened, the crews exited the house and fought the blaze from the outside.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
