Nooksack Valley Pioneers boys' basketball preview capsule

Coach: Tyler Mitchell (sixth season)

Last year: Finished 12th in the Northwest Conference with a 1-19 record. Did not qualify for the postseason and finished 1-19 overall.

Players to watch: Connor Beard (so., G); Eben Rossmiller (sr., G); Noah Rawls (so., G); Aaron Bosscher (so., G/F); Seth Taron (sr., F)

Outlook: Nooksack Valley coach Tyler Mitchell knows there will be some growing pains this year. That's what happens when three sophomores start, but the Pioneers coach has been impressed with both his team's effort level and skill. Headlining the returners is sophomore Connor Beard (5.8 points per game), who started last year. Senior 6-foot-5 forward Seth Taron (7.5) also returns. Senior guard Eben Rossmiller played mostly JV last winter, but Mitchell said he's "really stepped up and has led by example." Mitchell said rebounding and limiting teams to one shot will be key in helping Nooksack Valley add to this year's win total.
