Lynden Christian boys' basketball preview capsule

Coach: Roger De Boer (fourth season)

Last year: Finished tied for third in the Northwest Conference with a 9-3 record. Won 1A Northwest District and 1A Tri-District titles, placed fifth at the 1A State Tournament and finished 22-7 overall.

Players to watch: Zach Roetcisoender (so., G); Grant Wolffis (sr., G); Josh Hornstra (sr., F); Jo Meppelink (so., G); Cody Fransen (jr., F); Jake Van Berkum (jr., G)

Outlook: A lot has changed for coach Roger De Boer's Lyncs since LC left last year's state tournament with a fifth-place trophy. Two-time conference MVP Isaac Reimer has since graduated and so have a number of other key seniors. LC also has endured a myriad of injuries, starting with guard Daulton Hommes (8.6 points per game), who is expected to miss the year with a knee injury. Four others De Boer pegged to play significant roles have either been lost for all or most of the season due to injury. "We're asking a lot from a lot of fresh faces," De Boer said in a phone interview. Those include guards Zach Roetcisoender (3.4), Grant Wolffis (1.9) and Jo Meppelink and frontcourt players Josh Hornstra (1.2) and Cody Fransen. LC will rely on depth from a 10-man rotation and a balanced attack, De Boer said.
