Anacortes Seahawks prep boys' basketball preview capsule

Coach: Brett Senff (seventh season)

Last year: Finished second in the Northwest Conference with a 10-2 record. Went 3-1 during the 2A District 1/2 Tournament, captured second place at the Class 2A State Tournament and finished 22-6 overall.

Players to watch: Ty Johnson (jr., G); Andrew Medalia (sr., F); Peter Haynes (sr., P); Zach Vance (sr., P); Kaleb Wigen (sr., G); Joe D'Amelio (jr., G)

Outlook: The Seahawks lost three of their top scorers who helped lead Anacortes to the 2A state title game last year but will lean on junior guard Ty Johnson (9.4 points per game), and senior forward Andrew Medalia (8.5) to shoulder the scoring. Coach Brett Senff said open spots have generated plenty of competition. "Every player is definitely trying to earn a spot," Senff said in an interview with the Skagit Valley Herald. "Practices are going well, and kids are working hard. We're teaching them to compete and that is exactly what they are doing." Anacortes has a lot of size with 6-foot-5 Medalia and Zach Vance and 6-foot-4 Peter Haynes. Guards Kaleb Wigen, Jordan Neville, Joe D'Amelio and Daniel McInerney are expected to heavily contribute.
