Lynden's girls' wrestling team fell to Sedro-Woolley 51-16 on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Sedro-Woolley High School.
The Lions picked up only two pins in the match against a tough Cubs' team, which was wrestling in its first meet of the season.
"Sedro is a tough team," Lynden coach Santos Gallegos said in a phone interview. "We went out and wrestled pretty well. It's tough when you wrestle Sedro-Woolley. My girls went out and had fun and that's all you can ask for."
In addition to the enjoyment, the Lions picked up two pins. The first came from Shannon Gee, who finished eighth in state a season ago.
"Shannon wrestled really good," Gallegos said. "The opposing girl made a mistake and she took advantage of it. Shannon wants to go far and she's not gonna let anyone get in her way."
Lynden's other pin came from Thalia Viliz.
"Thalia is pretty quick," Gallegos said. "She didn't let up, she kept going and it got her the win today."
Lynden's next meet is against Nooksack Valley on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Nooksack Valley High School.
