Hayes' 3-pointers sink Mountaineers

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 10, 2013

Blaine's girls' basketball team topped Mount Baker 52-44 behind Mandy Hayes' four 3-pointers Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Mount Baker High School.

Hayes finished with 17 points, trailing only Taylor V'Dovec (18 points) for the team-high.

"Hayes hit some threes and that was tough," Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. "But we were pretty happy with the performance overall. I think it's the toughest we have played Blaine in a couple years."

Emily Yost scored 18 points for Mount Baker and hit two 3-pointers.

"It was a real good test for her," Ellis said. "Blaine has tough defenders. She had a great game and worked hard on the boards. It was a measuring point for her. I'm excited for Emily. She went in and played well."

The Borderites (3-0) look to continue winning against Ferndale on Friday, Dec. 13, at Blaine High School. The Mountaineers (2-1) hit the road to play Sedro-Woolley on Friday.
