Tenkley's threes boost Pioneers to win

Nooksack Valley girls' basketball overcame a rebounding deficiency and topped La Conner 55-44 on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Nooksack Valley. The Pioneers were led by Taryn Tenkley's 15 points in the game.

Tenkley's points all came off of 3-pointers, including three in the fourth quarter. She also led the Pioneers with six assists.

"Taryn had a career-high for points tonight. It was a back-and-forth game until she hit those threes," Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview.

The Pioneers' Emilia Gimmaka added 11 points and led the team with five rebounds. Anna Cook was La Conner's top scorer with 17 points.

Wichers also gave credit to his team's accurate free throw shooting for the win. Nooksack Valley was 14 for 18 to La Conner's 8 for 23.

Nooksack Valley plays next at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Bellingham.
