Lions win first game behind Somers' strong play

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 9, 2013

Lynden girls' basketball jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first quarter and held off Anacortes in a 65-41 win Monday, Dec. 9, at Lynden High School. The Lions were led by Stephanie Somers' 22 points in the victory.

"We were just really excited to play," Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview. "We were excited with how we started out the game. Somers came out an got after it offensively."

Somers also led the Lions with nine rebounds and six assists. Anacortes' MacKenzie Wight and Tania Daou each had 10 points for the Seahawks.

"Anacortes came out and put us on our heels a bit. They had some open shots early, so we had to make some adjustments," Adams said. "They missed some easy ones (in the first half). Defensively, we mixed and matched between man and zone."

Lynden's next game is at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Sehome.
