Coach: Brenda Ellis

Last year: Finished with a 4-8 record in the NWC, good for a ninth-place finish. The Mountaineers finished with a 10-13 record overall. ... Went 1-2 at the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament, falling to Blaine and Nooksack Valley but beating Friday Harbor. ... Managed to score 44.5 points per game last year, but struggled defensively, allowing opposing teams to post 49.6 points per game.

Players to watch: Emily Yost (Jr., Guard/Forward); Emily Brandland (So., Guard); Emma Lallas (Sr., Guard)

Outlook: Mount Baker returned many of its starters from last year, boasting a lineup that can run with any team in the NWC. Leading the charge will be junior guard/forward Emily Yost, who scored 39 points in the Mountaineers' season-opening win over Meridian. "She is going to be really strong this year," coach Brenda Ellis said. "She also realizes that it is the team around her that made it possible." With a guard-heavy roster, Ellis is expecting her team to score. "We definitely like to run," Ellis said. Yost is by no means going to be the only offensive threat for Mount Baker, said Ellis, who expects the offense to run through several different players on any given night. "I could see each of our players making big contributions," she said.
