Coach: Shane Wichers

Last year: The Pioneers finished seventh in the NWC last year with a 7-5 conference record and 15-9 record overall. ... Qualified for the Class 1A District tournament where the Pioneers went 2-2, including a win against Mount Baker. ... Averaged 47.3 points per game as a team last year, good for fourth highest in the NWC.

Players to watch: Lindsay Hayes (Sr., Guard/Post); Taryn Tenkley (Sr., Guard); Julie Campos (Sr., Guard)

Outlook: Nooksack Valley returns a solid group of seniors who will provide the Pioneers with the leadership necessary to return for yet another postseason run. Coach Shane Wichers is particularly pleased with the meshing of skill sets he's seen so far, including the play of seniors Lindsay Hayes, Cheyanna Maxwell and Julie Campos. "Every one of those kids brings a unique skill and strength," Wichers said. "It all meshes together really well. ... We have a nice combination of everything." As one of the better offenses in the NWC last year, Wichers is looking for much of the same from his team, running its sets and staying within the flow of the offense. "We have lots of movement, and we like to attack the basket."
