Turnovers hurt Pioneers in opening season loss

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 4, 2013

The Nooksack Valley boys' basketball team fell to Granite Falls 62-46 on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Nooksack Valley High School.

The Pioneers took a 13-10 lead into the second quarter, but were outscored 21-9 in the second and were never able to recover.

"We had some missed opportunities, probably first game jitters," coach Tyler Mitchell said in a phone interview. "They'll get more comfortable."

The Pioneers had three scorers in double figures - Connor Beard with 13, Noah Rawls with 12 and Eben Rossmiller with 10.

"They did a nice job," Mitchell said. "They were aggressive."

Granite Falls capitalized with 12 points off of 22 Pioneers' turnovers and gave the Pioneers the opening season loss.

"We need to take care of the basketball," Mitchell said. "There was way too many turnovers. You eliminate those and it's a pretty close game."

The Pioneers goes on the road to face Sehome on Friday, Dec. 6.
