Meridian boys' basketball tops South Whidbey

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 4, 2013

Meridian boys' basketball defeated South Whidbey 59-43 on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at South Whidbey High School. The Trojans were led by Alex Martin's 23 points.

Meridian had to overcome a tough matchup with South Whidbey's 6-foot-6 point guard.

"We didn't have anybody who could get a hand in his face on defense," Meridian coach Shane Stacy said in a phone interview. "He was just able to go inside and outside. We changed up the defense on him a little bit late in the second quarter and in the second half."

Sam Chambers grabbed nine rebounds for Meridian to go along with his seven points. Chambers had to fill in for Kyle Young when Young got in early foul trouble, Stacy said, but adjusted well to playing out of position.

Meridian's next game is at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, when it hosts Bellingham.
