Pair of double-doubles key WCC in win

Kayla Tiemersma and Natalie Gruber each had a double-double for Whatcom Community College's women's basketball team as the Orcas battled for a 72-65 win over Pierce College on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Pierce College.

Kortney Grattic led the Orcas in scoring with 22 points in the game.

"We knew going into the game that Pierce was going to press the entire game and we did a good job handling the pressure in the backcourt," WCC coach Sara Bergner said in a phone interview.

Tiemersma led WCC in rebounding with 13 boards to go along with her 15 points. Gruber scored 12 and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Orcas. Alexa Goodenow led Pierce with 15 points and Kami Hansen added 13.

The Orcas play next on Friday, Dec. 13, at home against Quest University.
