Christmas tree lighting, Art Walk in downtown Bellingham

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDDecember 4, 2013

Bellingham's annual Christmas tree lighting and Whatcom Museum's Lightcatcher galleries are featured during an evening of free downtown events that are part of the monthly Art Walk on Friday, Dec. 6.

The tree will be lighted at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Depot Market Square, site of the Bellingham Farmers Market at Railroad Avenue and Maple Street, with activities that include carolers, refreshments and a visit from Santa.

Afterward, many downtown businesses and galleries will be open with exhibits for the monthly Art Walk, sponsored by the Downtown Bellingham Partnership, from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday. A list of participating businesses and a map of their locations was incomplete early this week, but were scheduled to be listed at http://downtownbham.wordpress.com.

A highlight of the evening is free admission to the Lightcatcher at 250 Flora St., where the featured exhibit is the highly regarded "Vanishing Ice," a collection of alpine and polar landscapes from 1175 to 2012. The exhibit aims to show how the world's glacial legacy is threatened by global climate change. For more information, see whatcommuseum.org.
