Coach: Fred Pulphus

Last year: The Trojans finished with an 0-5 record in the NWC, good for last place although it was Meridian's first year back with a wrestling team. ... The Trojans sent one wrestler to state in Neal Tilbury, who graduated.

Wrestlers to watch: Treven Elgersma (Jr., 152); Edvard Yelfimov (Sr., 220)

Outlook: Meridian coach Fred Pulphus didn't hesitate in saying that the Trojans' program is still very young and inexperienced. He cautioned that most of have limited, if any, wrestling experience, and that he's going to rely heavily on senior Edvard Yelfimov and junior Treven Elgersma to lead a club that he thinks is two years away from being relevant in the NWC. "We're just so young and so new," Pulphus said. "They're just good, solid kids that any coach would love to have." Yelfimov, in particular, caught his coaches' eye in early-season practices. "He's just fast and strong," Pulphus said. "Went to regionals last year as a first-year wrestler. ... He's a very coachable kid and is just a great kid."
