What's closed Thanksgiving, Black Friday in Whatcom County


If you're waiting until after work Wednesday, Nov. 27, to run all of your errands, you should call ahead. Some small businesses will close early Wednesday to allow employees extra travel time for Thanksgiving.

Many businesses and services are closed Thursday for the holiday while others have limited hours. A few of the bigger retailers will open Thursday as Black Friday sales creep into Thanksgiving.

Most public agencies are closed Thursday and Friday. Below is the status of businesses and services for Thursday and Friday. For those not listed, call ahead.


Haggen: Open 24 hours.

The Market stores, Cost Cutter, Food Pavilion: Open until 6 p.m. Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Albertson's: Open until 4 p.m. Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Fred Meyer: Open Thanksgiving Day until 4 p.m. Opens 5 a.m. Friday.

Safeway: Regular hours for Thursday and Friday.

Community Food Co-op: Closed Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Trader Joe's: Closed Thursday. Regular hours Friday.

Everybody's Store: 7:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.


Whatcom County offices: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Bellingham city offices: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Bellingham parking meters: Not enforced Thursday or Friday.

Whatcom County Library system and bookmobile: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Bellingham Public Library: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Banks: Closed Thursday, open Friday.

U.S. Postal Service: Closed, no mail delivery Thursday. Regular service Friday.

Garbage: SSC and Nooksack Valley Disposal & Recycling will pick up on regular schedule both days but trucks might be early; set out trash and recycling the night before. SSC offices and transfer station closed Thursday and Friday.

Whatcom Transportation Authority: No buses running Thursday. Regular schedule Friday.

The Bellingham Herald: Regular newspaper delivery. Offices closed Thursday. Customer service line, 360-676-2660, open 6:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday only for delivery issues. Regular office hours and services Friday.

Opportunity Council: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Boys & Girls Clubs: Closed Thursday and Friday.


Bellis Fair: Stores will open various hours on Thursday and Friday.

Retail stores: Most closed Thursday except for many big-box retailers. A list of Thursday and early Black Friday openings was in the Nov. 24 newspaper and will be repeated in the Thanksgiving issue. Most open Friday.

Restaurants: Some open Thursday. Call ahead; many require reservations.

Movie theaters: Regal theaters, Pickford and Limelight open Thursday and Friday.


Public schools: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Whatcom Community College: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Western Washington University: No classes Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Offices open Wednesday.

Bellingham Technical College: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Northwest Indian College: Closed Thursday and Friday.
