Extra holiday DUI patrols start Nov. 27

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDNovember 25, 2013

Extra troopers, police officers and deputies will be on patrol looking for impaired drivers in Whatcom and San Juan counties as part of a holiday season Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

From Wednesday, Nov. 27, to Jan. 1, law enforcement officers from Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden and Western Washington University police departments, the Washington State Patrol and the Whatcom and San Juan County sheriff's offices will work to pull over dangerous drivers as part of a goal to reach zero traffic deaths statewide by 2030.

In addition, state patrols in Washington, Oregon and California announced a goal of zero deaths on Interstate 5 over the Thanksgiving travel period.

On average, 49 people died in Washington state traffic accidents between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day each of the last five years. For details about the campaign, see WAdrivetozero.com.
