The Bellingham Herald was distributed in the afternoons back in 1963. When news broke of President John F. Kennedy being shot in Dallas, the staff scrambled to remake the newspaper in the short time they had before the presses needed to roll. The red headline across the top, rarely used in journalism, signaled the enormity of the news.
