Backs funding for economic development


The City of Bellingham, recognizing that they need the tax revenue that Costco provides and in order to facilitate orderly development in the property just north of the Costco site, has acquired land for mitigation purposes of wetlands within an approximate 256 acre parcel annexed to the city. The city is making this available for any worthwhile development in the area and is not specific to Costco. The naysayers on the County Council who are changing their minds about the Economic Development Improvement funding are missing the point and the impact that those funds can have in an orderly development of not only the Costco site but other worthwhile projects in the area. The specific use for the Economic Development Improvement funds are for creating job opportunities which we certainly need in this county.
