Volunteers sought for Bellingham tax preparation program

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDNovember 19, 2013

The local AARP Tax-Aide Program is seeking volunteers to provide free personal income tax preparation.

Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply to help. Although extensive previous tax preparation experience is helpful, it is not required to be a successful volunteer. Anyone with basic computer skills, an ability to work with numbers, and a passion to help people can succeed.

Volunteers are required to do a self-study course (online or from printed material) and pass an online test to become certified by the IRS.

The tax preparation service is offered at Bellingham Public Library and other sites in the county from February to April, and serves mainly low-income taxpayers and people 60 and older.

Details: Carlton Nathon, local program coordinator, taxaidebellingham@gmail.com.
