Ferndale volleyball's season ends

The Ferndale volleyball team saw its hopes of capturing a Class 3A volleyball championship come to an end Friday, Nov. 15, when the Golden Eagles fell to Columbia River 25-18, 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-9 at Timberline High School in the Class 3A State Volleyball Championships.

The Golden Eagles, who claimed a top seed in state after winning the Northwest District tournament as a No. 4 seed, fell to the consolation bracket where they had to face off with Prairie, who lost to Seattle Prep in similar fashion as Ferndale, 17-25, 27-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9.

Despite not being able to play for a title, Ferndale still was in contention for as high as an eighth-place finish if it was to win through the consolation bracket. Alas, the Golden Eagles lost for a second time Friday, falling to Prairie 25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 19-25, 15-10.

The five-set loss to Prairie signaled the end of the season that saw the Golden Eagles return to the state tournament for the first time in three years. The current Golden Eagles' group of seniors went as freshmen, and the experience this year mirrored their original experience, as they lost both contests that year, too.
