Colder temperatures, mountain snow expected for Whatcom County this weekend

Cooler temperatures, night freezes and mountain snow are headed to Whatcom County this weekend.

A winter storm watch has been issued for the Cascades and the mountain passes starting late Thursday. Heavy snow is expected before dawn Friday through early Saturday. Up to a foot could fall in the passes and at Mount Baker, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow levels could fall to 1,000 feet in some areas early Saturday.

Temperatures in the lowlands will reach highs only into the upper 30s or low 40s Saturday and Sunday. Expect temperatures near or below freezing both nights, according to National Weather Service forecasts.
